Atiku, Tambuwal, Others Meeting With Obasanjo; Aregbesola-Kwankwaso’s Pact Rattle APC
As the politicking for the 2027 General Election begins to gather steam, recent moves by the opposition parties in the country are said to be causing jitters in the camp of the ruling All-Progressives Congress (APC).
Earlier, the presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in the 2023 general election, Rabiu Kwankwaso, and former Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, over the weekend met in Lagos, to “strategise” ahead of the 2027 general election.
The two leaders held a marathon meeting in Lagos where they strategised ahead of the 2027 election, a move which rankled the ruling party.
While the ruling party was still ruminating on this, former President Olusegun Obasanjo and Atiku Abubakar also met in Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital on Monday, February 19, 2025.
The high-profile meeting also had Liyel Imoke, former governor of Cross River State, Aminu Tambuwal, ex-governor of Sokoto state, and Abdul Ningi, the senator representing Bauchi Central in attendance.
The DIP CONNECT NEWS gathered that the meeting is connected to ongoing coalition discussions ahead of the 2027 general election.
These developments are said to be rattling the APC.
In recent weeks, some opposition figures and even some figures within the APC have become emboldened in their criticisms against the current administration, fuelling speculation that they may be warming up for the battle to wrestle power from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the APC.
Reacting to this, a chieftain of the APC who spoke on the condition of anonymity urged the ruling party to close ranks.
He warned that the vulture is circling and if care is not taken, 2027 might be a tough prospect for the ruling party.
“Any student of history would be worried about the recent moves by the opposition, this was the same way the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) was sacked.
“The ruling
party must be very wary and careful about the recent developments or we risk
being sacked in 2027” the source told The Matrix.
It would be recalled that an APC chieftain, Joe Igbokwe has also recently warned the ruling party that it cannot afford to lose the former Governor of Kaduna State, Malam Nasir El-Rufai who has also been hobnobbing with the opposition.
