Pa Ayo Adebanjo, leader of the pan-Yoruba socio-political group Afenifere and a veteran of the National Democratic Coalition (NADECO), has passed away peacefully at his Lekki residence in Lagos State on Friday, February 14, 2025, at the age of 96.
The news was confirmed in a statement by his children, Mrs. Ayotunde Atteh, Mrs. Adeola Azeez, and Mr. Obafemi Ayo-Adebanjo, who revealed that funeral arrangements are underway in consultation with friends, associates, and interest groups across Nigeria and beyond.
A distinguished lawyer and former organising secretary of the Action Group (AG), Pa Adebanjo is survived by his 94-year-old wife, Chief Christy Ayo-Adebanjo, along with children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
“We will forever cherish his commitment to truth, equity, and justice. His fight for a truly independent and progressive Nigeria was unwavering,” the family’s statement read.
