Nasarawa Exposes 2,277 Illegally Hired Teachers in Recruitment Scandal

Nasarawa State's investigative committee has uncovered a major scandal involving 2,277 illegally hired teachers, breaching the state’s recruitment policies. The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) went rogue, recruiting 3,277 teachers instead of the approved 1,000. Governor Abdullahi Sule condemned the actions of the suspended TSC officials, accusing them of extorting money from job seekers in exchange for appointment letters.

Governor Sule vowed to involve security agencies in the matter, highlighting the dire consequences for the state's education system. He emphasized the importance of hiring qualified teachers to improve education standards, which are already among the lowest in the country.

The investigation, led by Silas Dachor, revealed that the recruitment exercise was poorly managed, unmeritocratic, and rife with corruption. Applicants were coerced into paying between N500,000 to N700,000 to secure positions, with no regard for actual needs or fair distribution across the state. The governor expressed his commitment to correcting this misstep and ensuring that only qualified educators serve Nasarawa’s schools.
