Onitsha Traditional Council Blasts Soludo Over Lawmaker’s Murder, Demands Justice

The Onitsha Traditional Council has strongly condemned the murder of Justice Azuka, the Onitsha-North 1 Constituency lawmaker in the Anambra State House of Assembly, and voiced deep concerns about the worsening security situation under Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s leadership.

Azuka, who was abducted on December 24, 2024, was found dead 40 days later, near the Second Niger Bridge. The council, through a statement signed by Chief Osita Anionwu, accused the state government of failing to protect residents, highlighting the murder as a glaring example of its inability to ensure security.

During a town hall meeting, the community expressed shock over a disturbing video showing a suspected killer with Azuka’s body, criticizing authorities for sensationalizing the discovery instead of focusing on preventing such crimes.

The council also highlighted Azuka’s public service efforts and demanded a thorough investigation into the murder, raising concerns over potential ransom payments and the involvement of additional accomplices. They urged the state government to take concrete steps to address the root causes of insecurity and ensure that justice is served.

In closing, the council called on residents to honor Azuka’s legacy during his funeral on February 15, 2025, and to unite in efforts to restore peace to Onitsha and Anambra State.
