The Osun Health Insurance Agency (OSHIA) has successfully cleared a N1bn debt inherited from the previous management, the agency’s Executive Secretary, Dr. Razaq Akindele, has disclosed.
Speaking at the agency’s Annual Performance Review and Strategy Retreat in Ada, Osun State, on Monday, Akindele emphasized that settling the debt was crucial to maintaining trust and commitment among healthcare providers.
“We inherited over N1bn in debt, covering unpaid fees to healthcare service providers and 13 months’ worth of capitation owed to health centres,” he stated. “Clearing this debt was a top priority, and as of now, we owe no one.”
Akindele highlighted the agency’s steady progress under the new management and reiterated its commitment to meeting enrollees' healthcare needs.
In his remarks, the Board Chairman of OSHIA, Dr. Muyiwa Oladimeji, noted that the retreat would enhance participants’ dedication to the government’s vision of accessible and affordable healthcare.
Also speaking, Osun State Head of Service, Mr. Ayanleye Aina, reaffirmed the government’s full support for OSHIA, adding that enrollment in the insurance scheme is now mandatory for all civil servants.
“We are ensuring compliance at the MDA level, and all civil servants are required to register,” Aina stated.
