Current FIFA Council member Amaju Pinnick has voiced his support for eliminating language-based voting groups in the upcoming CAF elections. He believes this change will ensure that the best candidates represent Africa on the FIFA Council. The elections, scheduled for March 12, 2025, in Cairo, Egypt, will feature Pinnick among 10 candidates contending for one of six available seats as he seeks re-election for another four-year term after a notable tenure representing Africa.
This year marks a significant shift in the electoral process with the removal of regional voting blocs traditionally based on language. The decision, made during the 46th CAF General Assembly in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, is seen by Pinnick as a critical step toward a more equitable and competitive system. He argues that this change will allow the most qualified individuals to attain positions, irrespective of their ethnic or linguistic backgrounds.
