Saudi Arabia has officially announced the sighting of the new
moon, signaling the end of Ramadan and the beginning of Shawwal. As a result,
Eid-el-Fitr will be celebrated on Sunday, marking the conclusion of the
month-long fasting and devotion observed by Muslims worldwide.
The confirmation was made through the Haramain Sharifain X
platform, which reported that around 10 observatories participated in sighting
the Shawwal crescent.
Ahead of the announcement, there was some debate among Saudi
Arabian experts regarding the moon sighting. While five recognized astronomers
predicted Eid-el-Fitr would fall on Sunday, four others expected it on
Monday.
Ramadan, which began in most parts of the world on March 1,
will now officially conclude with Eid celebrations featuring prayers, feasts,
and acts of charity.
