The Kano State Police Command has announced a ban on all
Durbar activities during the 2025 Eid-El-Fitr celebrations, citing security
concerns and the need to maintain public order.
Speaking at a press briefing on Friday at the Bompai Police
Headquarters, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Bakori, stated that the
decision was made to ensure a peaceful and secure festive period.
CP Bakori reassured residents that adequate security measures
had been put in place to safeguard worshippers at designated Eid prayer
grounds. He urged citizens to prioritize peace and unity, emphasizing the
importance of collective responsibility in maintaining law and order.
“As we celebrate, let us remember that peace is paramount. We
must set aside our differences and work together as law-abiding citizens for
the progress of our state and nation,” he stated.
The Commissioner also announced a strict ban on horse riding
(Kilisa), car racing, and reckless driving during the festivities. Worshippers
were advised to adhere to security guidelines and avoid carrying items that
could raise suspicion.
Furthermore, parents and guardians were urged to caution
their children against being influenced by subversive elements, stressing the
need for discipline and adherence to public order.
The Police Command called for continued cooperation with
security agencies and encouraged residents to report any suspicious activities
to the nearest police station.
DIP CONNECT reports that the Kano Durbar, a cherished
cultural event featuring colorful horse parades and traditional displays, has
not been held since the emirate tussle began in 2024. However, the 16th Emir of
Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, had been planning to revive the event following
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s directive for its return this year.
