Nigerian Muslims Celebrate Eid-el-Fitr as Ramadan Ends

Muslims across Nigeria today join their counterparts worldwide in celebrating Eid-el-Fitr, marking the end of Ramadan.

The Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, announced the sighting of the new moon last night, declaring today, March 30, 2025, as the 1st day of Shawwal 1446AH. The declaration followed reports from the National Moon Sighting Committees confirming sightings across the country.

The Sultan, who also serves as the President-General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), extended his best wishes to Nigerian Muslims, urging them to continue praying for peace, progress, and national development.

To ensure a smooth celebration, security agencies, including the Police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and other sister agencies, have intensified patrols nationwide.

Similarly, Saudi Arabia confirmed the sighting of the Shawwal moon, officially announced on the *Haramain Sharifain* X platform. Around 10 observatories participated in the process, which led to the global confirmation of today’s Eid celebration.

Meanwhile, major motor parks across Nigeria witnessed a surge in travelers heading home for the festivities. The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has deployed officers to ensure seamless traffic flow on highways.

In Kaduna, the State Police Command has increased security measures across the state. Commissioner of Police Rabiu Muhammad directed area commanders and divisional police officers to enhance patrols and intelligence gathering to prevent security threats. Residents were urged to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities via the command’s emergency lines.

Similarly, in Kano State, the NSCDC has deployed 3,256 personnel to safeguard Eid prayer grounds, markets, and critical infrastructure. FRSC has also assigned 1,889 personnel to manage traffic, supported by patrol vehicles, ambulances, and a heavy-duty tow truck.

Bauchi State Police Command also reaffirmed its commitment to a safe celebration, with Commissioner Sani-Omolori Aliyu assuring residents of enhanced security operations.

As Nigerian Muslims celebrate Eid, authorities continue to prioritize safety, ensuring a peaceful and memorable festivity.
