PETROAN Applauds NNPC for 180 Days of Continuous Operation at Port Harcourt Refinery

The Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Owners Association of Nigeria (PETROAN) has commended the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) for successfully operating the rehabilitated Port Harcourt Refinery non-stop for 180 days.

In a statement on Tuesday, PETROAN’s National Public Relations Officer, Joseph Obele, praised the host communities for their cooperation and support during the refinery’s rehabilitation.

“The refinery had been inactive for over 20 years. Since its commissioning in October 2024, it has operated continuously for 180 days, up to March 2025. This achievement highlights the effectiveness of the rehabilitation project,” Obele stated.

He noted that PETROAN members are currently loading Automotive Gas Oil (diesel) and Dual Purpose Kerosene (DPK) from the refinery, while NNPC Ltd. retail marketers are supplying Premium Motor Spirit (PMS). This, he said, has ensured a steady petroleum product supply while curbing the circulation of adulterated kerosene and diesel.

PETROAN also extended special recognition to the Managing Director of the Port Harcourt Refining Company (PHRC), Mr. Ibrahim Onoja, for his leadership, technical expertise, and commitment to the refinery’s successful operation.

Additionally, the association expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for providing the necessary funds for the refinery’s rehabilitation. Obele further commended the Federal Government and NNPC Ltd. for their dedication to restoring Nigeria’s refining capacity.

He affirmed that the sustained operation of the refinery would positively impact the country’s energy security, economy, and job creation.
