PFN DISOWNS FAKE PRESS RELEASE, ACCUSES VERYDARKMAN OF MISINFORMATION

The Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) has accused social media influencer Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), of fabricating and circulating a false press release in its name regarding his ongoing feud with gospel singer Mercy Chinwo.

According to PFN officials, the fake statement misrepresented the organisation’s stance on the issue, misleading the public. The Christian body strongly condemned the act, warning against the dangers of misinformation and its potential to erode public trust.

In response, PFN has urged authorities to investigate the matter and take legal action to prevent the further spread of false information. Meanwhile, VDM has yet to respond to the allegations.

Issuing a formal disclaimer, the PFN stated:

“The Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) hereby issues a formal disclaimer regarding this recent press release that has been circulated on social media. This press release allegedly addressed the controversy surrounding Mercy Chinwo and one VDM, but it was not issued by PFN and should be disregarded.”

The statement, signed by PFN’s National Secretary, Bishop David Bakare, also advised the public to verify information before sharing it. “We understand that such misinformation can be damaging, and we take this opportunity to remind our members and the public to always verify the authenticity of news and information before sharing it. PFN takes no responsibility for this fake press release, and we caution against its further dissemination,” it read.

This incident underscores the growing concerns about digital misinformation and the ethical responsibilities of social media influencers. As online platforms continue to shape public discourse, the need for accountability and fact-checking has become more crucial in preventing the spread of misleading content.
