The move to recall Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has sparked sharp divisions among constituents in Kogi Central Senatorial District. While supporters of the recall cite lack of confidence in her leadership and alleged misconduct, opponents dismiss the process as a futile effort.
The two-day exercise, covering all polling units across five local governments, saw high turnout in Okene, Okehi, and Ajaokuta, while participation in Ogori/Magongo was lower. The process is set to continue in Adavi today.
Voters are required to sign a petition to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) seeking Akpoti-Uduaghan’s removal. Some constituents argue that the recall reflects widespread dissatisfaction with her handling of poverty, infrastructure, and education, while others insist the move is politically motivated.
A
constituent, Nura Ibrahim from Okene, expressed doubts about securing the
required signatures. Similarly, APC member Abbas Aliyu compared the process to
the failed attempt to recall Senator Dino Melaye, urging residents to
reconsider.
Allegations
of federal government influence have also surfaced, with some insisting the
recall should not be driven by party interests. As the battle unfolds, Kogi
Central remains divided on the fate of its senator.
