Reviving Education in Ogun West

For years, Ogun West has struggled educationally, with key indices such as school enrolment, external examination pass rates, and university progression remaining low. Additionally, many graduates from the region find it difficult to secure well-suited jobs.  However, one undeniable strength of the district is its wealth of cognitive ability, as many students continue to excel academically despite these challenges.

Recognizing the situation, Senator Olamilekan Adeola YAYI carefully assessed the educational landscape before launching targeted interventions.

One of his key initiatives is sponsoring JAMB registration for indigent students, easing financial burdens on parents while increasing the number of university applicants from Ogun West. Beyond this, he introduced scholarship and bursary awards to support those who gain admission into tertiary institutions.

Through this scheme, beneficiaries must maintain a minimum of a second-class upper division, fostering a culture of academic excellence. This initiative ensures that diligent students from Ogun West can earn degrees without worrying about tuition fees.

As a seasoned chartered accountant and fellow of the profession, Adeola understands the role of quality education in socio-economic development. This insight led to the creation of ‘EDUPACK’, a structured intervention designed to uplift education in the district.

During the recently concluded 2025 JAMB registration, Adeola ensured that over 4,200 students from Ogun West registered for the examination free of charge. He instructed the implementation team, led by me, to extend the outreach to remote areas, ensuring no eligible student was left out.

Within the final week of the registration window, thousands of applicants were successfully enrolled. The pressing question then arose: What would have been the fate of these students, their parents, and society if not for this initiative?

What makes Adeola’s intervention unique is its structured and interconnected nature. By covering JAMB registration, providing scholarships and bursaries, and facilitating employment opportunities, he is not only addressing immediate educational concerns but also laying the foundation for a more secure and prosperous society.

In the coming days, the YAYI Scholarship and Bursary Board** will disburse substantial funds to beneficiaries across various tertiary institutions. His influence extends beyond education, as his job facilitation efforts have reignited hope among graduates, motivating more students to pursue higher education with the assurance of better career prospects.

For Ogun West students today, this is a transformative period. In the past, such support was nonexistent, leaving many demoralized and disheartened about furthering their education.

In just two years, YAYI’s leadership has bridged Ogun West’s longstanding infrastructural and developmental gaps with remarkable speed. His visionary approach and expertise as a chartered accountant, tax and development strategist, and seasoned politician have positioned him as a leader many aspire to see as the next governor of Ogun State.

His commitment is not just to Ogun West but to the overall advancement of Ogun State, demonstrating his capability as a leader dedicated to common progress and sustainable development.
