RIVERS GOVT PLEDGES ENGAGEMENT WITH INSTITUTIONS, URGES PEACE AMIDST EMERGENCY RULE

The Rivers State government has vowed to engage with relevant institutions to address the ongoing political crisis following President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency.

In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Warisenibo Joe Johnson, the government reassured citizens of its commitment to upholding constitutional order and maintaining peace. He emphasized that Governor Siminalayi Fubara has remained within his constitutional mandate, prioritizing the safety and well-being of Rivers residents.

Johnson noted that the state government had faithfully implemented resolutions from Tinubu’s intervention, including reinstating resigned commissioners and complying with the Supreme Court’s ruling. However, he lamented that certain

political actors, particularly members of the Rivers State House of Assembly allegedly influenced by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), continue to undermine stability. He expressed disappointment that while the governor was targeted, the minister, whom he described as a key figure in the crisis, remained unaffected.

Despite the political tensions, Johnson assured that governance in Rivers State remains intact. Salaries are being paid, developmental projects are ongoing, and security is maintained under the current administration.

“At this critical time, we urge all Rivers people to remain peaceful and law-abiding. We will engage with all relevant institutions to ensure that our democracy remains strong and that Rivers State continues to thrive,” the statement read.

Reaffirming the government’s commitment to protecting lives and property, Johnson called for patience and unity, assuring that the administration will continue working in the best interest of the people.
