Senate Confirms Nwakuche as Comptroller-General of Nigerian Correctional Service

The Nigerian Senate has officially confirmed Sylvester Nwakuche as the Comptroller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS). His confirmation followed the presentation of a screening report by the Senate Committee on Interior, chaired by Senator Adams Oshiomhole.

According to Oshiomhole, the committee found Nwakuche to be a candidate of impeccable character, possessing vast experience, intellectual energy, and leadership drive, making him highly suitable for the role. He noted that Nwakuche has held several command positions within the NCoS and has undergone extensive professional training.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio, while congratulating Nwakuche, urged him to prioritize addressing the recurring issue of jailbreaks across the country. “To whom much is given, much is expected. I hope that his appointment will bring an end to jailbreaks,” Akpabio stated.

Nwakuche’s confirmation came after President Bola Tinubu submitted his nomination for Senate approval, highlighting his qualifications and the urgency of the appointment in a letter read by Akpabio during plenary.

Meanwhile, in a separate development, the Senate also confirmed the appointment of Professor Melvin Ayogu as a member of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Board of Directors.
