President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Dr. Ibrahim Yahaya Oloriegbe as the Chairman of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) for an initial four-year term.
The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, announced the appointment in a statement issued on Sunday, March 30, 2025. The appointment officially took effect on March 11, 2025.
Oloriegbe, a former Kwara Central Senator, previously served as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Health from 2019 to 2023 and also led the Joint National Assembly Committee on Health.
According to Onanuga, Oloriegbe holds a Master’s in Coaching and Consultation from the University of Oxford, UK, and HEC, Paris, as well as a Bachelor's degree in Medicine and Surgery from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Kaduna State.
He is a member of several professional organizations, including the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Association of General and Private Medical Practitioners of Nigeria (AGPMPN), Nigeria Venereal Disease Association, Guild of Medical Directors of Nigeria, International AIDS Society (IAS), and the Africa Health Leadership and Management Network.

These appointments are aimed at ensuring continuity in promoting indigenous participation in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector. Tinubu urged the new members to drive policies that enhance local content growth.
Additionally, the President approved the appointment of a Secretary for Immigration, Prison Services, and Civil Defence.
The presidency emphasized that these are non-executive appointments, warning appointees against interfering in the management of their respective agencies.
