The South-South Zonal Secretary of the Peoples Democratic
Party (PDP), George Turnah, has assured that the upcoming mega rally in
Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, in support of President Bola Tinubu and the Minister of
the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, is not intended to create
unrest in the state.
In a statement issued on Friday by his media assistant,
Kelvin Loveday, Turnah reaffirmed the rally’s peaceful purpose, dismissing
concerns of any destabilization. He emphasized the right to freedom of
association and peaceful assembly, noting that his support for Wike aligns with
democratic principles.
Turnah reiterated his respect, loyalty, and commitment to the
Ijaw nation, clarifying that his political group, *The New Associates*, aims
solely to mobilize support for President Tinubu’s administration in the
South-South without hidden agendas.
According to him, the group will officially launch in Bayelsa
on April 12, 2025, with all necessary security arrangements in place to ensure
a peaceful event. He criticized the politicization of the rally, asserting that
ethnicity should not influence political activities.
Addressing concerns about his position as PDP Zonal
Secretary, Turnah questioned why his appointment as a Bayelsa indigene should
be contested, affirming his legitimacy in holding the role. He reiterated his
commitment to the party while dismissing allegations of conflicting political
interests.
Turnah commended Governor Douye Diri for his developmental
strides and pledged continued support for the *Prosperity Administration*. He
urged youths, women, and political stakeholders across party lines to attend
the rally en masse to show appreciation for President Tinubu and Wike,
recognizing their efforts in appointing Bayelsans to key positions in the
*Renewed Hope* administration.
