Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has expressed confidence in his ability to lead Nigeria as President in the 2027 general elections.
Speaking during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Tuesday, Makinde stated that his track record as governor demonstrates his readiness for the country’s highest office.
“I don’t have any doubt that I have the capacity to occupy the highest office in this land, and I have what it takes,” he said.
However, the governor noted that despite his confidence, several factors—such as public demand and his party’s direction—would determine his final decision.
“But is it what I want to do right now? Is it what Nigerians are asking for? Is it what my party will say we should do? I don’t know. We still have a long time to go,” he added.
Makinde stressed that for now, the priority for leaders in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is to rebuild and stabilize the party structure.
“Where we are right now is, you know, we must fix our party. You must have a platform for you to even aspire to be anything,” he said.
He also reflected on his journey in public service, noting that he has already surpassed earlier aspirations by becoming governor and values the opportunity given to him by the people to make a meaningful impact.
