The Lagos State Police Command has ramped up security measures across the state to ensure a peaceful and crime-free Easter celebration.
In a statement issued on Friday by the Command’s spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, ordered the immediate deployment of a large number of personnel, including conventional officers, elite strike forces, and tactical units. These include the Police Mobile Force, Rapid Response Squad, Counter-Terrorism Unit, Special Protection Unit, Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) squad, K9 units, mounted troops, and other operational detachments.
The deployment targets key areas across Lagos, particularly known black spots and flashpoints. The goal is to prevent criminal activity, dispel fear, and guarantee a hitch-free Easter celebration for residents and visitors.
Special focus is being given to churches, event venues, recreational centres, and public spaces expecting large crowds. These locations will be thoroughly policed to enhance public safety.
The Command disclosed that officers would be supported with logistical tools such as patrol vehicles and armoured personnel carriers. The effort is part of a broader plan to prevent any potential security breaches and maintain order throughout the festivities.
Commissioner Jimoh emphasized collaboration with other security agencies, including the military, paramilitary forces, and the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), to safeguard the state during and after Easter.
He directed officers to remain courteous, professional, and respectful of citizens’ rights while being firm in the discharge of their duties.
Lagosians were urged to support law enforcement by remaining alert and reporting any suspicious activities or individuals to the nearest police station for swift action. Reports of police misconduct can also be directed to the Lagos State Command Complaint Response Unit.
Additionally, the Commissioner appealed to parents and guardians to caution their children and wards against engaging in any disruptive behavior during the holiday period.
Extending Easter greetings, Jimoh stated, “On behalf of the officers and personnel of the Command, we celebrate with all Christian faithful in the state and wish them lasting peace, love, and joy. Happy Easter.
