The Federal Ministry of Education has reiterated the Federal Government's unwavering dedication to the welfare of Nigerian students studying abroad under the Bilateral Education Agreement (BEA) Scholarship Programme.
The BEA Programme, a result of strong diplomatic ties and mutual cooperation, allows Nigerian students to study in partner countries including China, Russia, Algeria, Hungary, Morocco, Egypt, and Serbia. Under these agreements, host nations offer beneficiaries free tuition, accommodation, and monthly stipends, while the Nigerian government provides take-off grants, monthly supplementary allowances throughout the study period, and return tickets upon graduation.
The Ministry confirmed that all supplementary allowances due to Nigerian scholars have been paid up to December 2024, underscoring the Honourable Minister of Education’s continued commitment to supporting Nigerian students abroad.
The Ministry also acknowledged the impact of recent exchange rate fluctuations, which caused shortfalls in disbursed funds. In response, the Honourable Minister has formally requested additional funding to cover the gaps and ensure continued support for the scholars.
