Lagos Police Deny Arrest of Boko Haram Suspects

The Lagos State Police Command has firmly denied reports claiming that hundreds of Boko Haram suspects were arrested in the state.

In a statement released on Friday, the Command’s spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, dismissed the reports as false and misleading. He revealed that the Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, immediately ordered an investigation to verify the claims.

“The investigation confirmed that no Boko Haram members were seen, sighted, or arrested anywhere in Lagos State,” Hundeyin said.

He explained that the alleged trailer park communities mentioned in the reports were visited, and their leaders, operators, and drivers all affirmed that no such individuals were seen or apprehended.

To ensure thorough verification, the Command deployed surveillance officers, personnel from the State Intelligence Department (SID), and other police units to the locations. “There was no confirmation of the presence or arrest of any Boko Haram suspects in any part of Lagos,” he added.

Hundeyin described the report as completely false, malicious, and aimed at creating unnecessary fear and panic among residents. He urged the public to disregard the information, calling it a product of the writer’s imagination.

He also cautioned media outlets against spreading unverified information that could disrupt public peace and security, and advised journalists to fact-check before publication.

Reassuring Lagos residents, Hundeyin said the police remain committed to protecting lives and property, encouraging citizens to carry on with their daily activities without fear. He advised anyone who notices suspicious activity to report to the nearest police station or contact the command’s control room on 08063299264.
