Many Feared Trapped as Building Collapses in Lagos

A multi-storey building under construction collapsed on Saturday morning on Oremeta Street, in the Ojodu-Berger area of Lagos State, trapping several people beneath the rubble.

The structure, which also housed the popular EqualRight Restaurant, gave way around 8 a.m., according to eyewitnesses, catching both occupants and passersby unawares.

One eyewitness, speaking as anonymously, described the building as a disaster waiting to happen. “Anyone who knows that building would know it was a bomb waiting to explode. I rarely went there to buy food because I always feared it would collapse while I was inside,” the source said.

The exact number of people trapped remains unknown at this time, but emergency responders have begun rescue operations.

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) was confirmed to be on-site, coordinating initial rescue efforts while awaiting the arrival of other relevant government agencies.

As the rescue continues, a crowd of anxious residents and bystanders has gathered at the scene, awaiting news of those still trapped.

More details to follow.
