On Friday, All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje led members of the party's National Working Committee (NWC) to visit former President Muhammadu Buhari at his residence in Kaduna State.
The visit came just hours after Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) 2023 presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar led an opposition delegation to pay a Sallah homage to Buhari. The delegation included former Governors Nasir el-Rufai of Kaduna, Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto, Achike Udenwa of Imo, Gabriel Suswam of Benue, Jibrilla Bindow of Adamawa, former Attorney General and Minister of Justice Abubakar Malami, and former Minister of Communications Isa Pantami.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, El-Rufai clarified that the visit was non-political and reassured that "adversaries" need not worry. He emphasized that the visit was aimed at promoting “unity and brotherhood.”
While the outcome of the APC NWC’s visit remains unclear, there has been speculation about the potential departure of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) faction from the APC, following defections to the Social Democratic Party. The CPC, one of the four political parties that merged to form the APC in 2013, had Buhari as a member. Despite these speculations, Buhari has maintained that he will never abandon the APC.
