Plateau Killings: IGP Orders Immediate Deployment of Tactical Assets

The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered the immediate deployment of tactical police assets to communities in Plateau State following a wave of deadly attacks in Bokkos Local Government Area since March 28.

In a statement released on Wednesday morning, the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said the deployment aims to restore peace, protect residents, and ensure justice for victims of the attacks.

The IGP has directed the Deputy Inspector-General of Police (Operations), DIG Kwazhi Yakubu, to lead and coordinate the intervention. The deployment includes:

  • Additional units of highly trained tactical personnel

  • Armored Personnel Carriers

  • Police Mobile Force squads

  • Specialised platoons from the Special Intervention Squad

  • Drones for aerial surveillance

  • Helicopters for rapid response

These assets will conduct targeted special operations to halt the ongoing violence and prevent further attacks.

The statement noted that the violence began on March 28, 2025, with a brutal assault on a Bokkos community, resulting in multiple deaths and injuries. This attack was followed by a series of assaults that have claimed scores of lives, leaving communities devastated.

Recognizing the scale of the crisis, the IGP has ordered a multi-faceted approach—not only to stop the violence but also to prevent its recurrence. Upon arriving in Plateau on April 8, DIG Kwazhi paid a courtesy visit to the Governor of Plateau State, Barr. Caleb Mutfwang, where he:

  • Delivered the IGP’s condolences to affected families and communities

  • Assessed the situation on ground

  • Discussed the root causes of the attacks

  • Explored long-term solutions to end the violence

The Nigeria Police Force reaffirmed its commitment to work closely with the Plateau State Government, community leaders, security agencies, and other stakeholders to achieve lasting peace and security.

Residents are urged to support the police and share any relevant information that could aid investigations and peacekeeping efforts.
