Police Arrest Terror Suspects, Recover Illegal Arms in Sokoto

The Sokoto State Police Command has apprehended several individuals suspected of illegal firearms possession and potential involvement in terrorism-related activities. This development underscores the command's ongoing efforts to enhance public safety and curb criminal activities across the state.

In a statement released on Friday, Police Public Relations Officer DSP Ahmed Rufai disclosed that operatives from the State Intelligence Department arrested Bello Ibrahim, also known as “Bello Currency,” along with four others: Alhaji Muhammad Danlato, Alhaji Abun Buhari, Alhaji Faruku Alhaji, and Abubakar Furniture. The arrests were made during a coordinated operation in Tambuwal Local Government Area.

Investigations revealed that Bello Ibrahim allegedly sold fabricated revolvers to the other suspects under the guise of self-defense. These weapons were unregistered, and the suspects lacked valid firearm licenses, constituting a violation of the Firearms Act.

Recovered items from the operation include multiple illegal firearms, four rounds of LAR ammunition, and one round of AK-47 ammunition.

In related incidents:

  • On April 23, 2025, officers at Tureta Police Station intercepted Yau Lawali of Yabawa Village, Bakura LGA in Zamfara State, during a stop-and-search operation. Lawali was found in possession of two locally fabricated guns and three rounds of AK-47 ammunition.

  • On April 19, 2025, police officers at Kebbe Police Station arrested three individuals—Danagaji Bala, Sani Muhammad, and Danjuma, all from Dogon Marke Village. They were allegedly found with a locally made revolver and 19 rounds of AK-47 live ammunition.

All suspects are currently in police custody and will face charges accordingly.

The Sokoto State Police Command affirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, urging residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to security agencies rather than resorting to unlawful measures.
