The Nigeria Police Force has condemned the actions of officers caught on video receiving money from a Chinese national, labeling their conduct as “unprofessional and unethical.”
The viral video, which sparked public outrage, led to a swift response from police authorities. The Force Headquarters has identified the officers involved and launched disciplinary proceedings against them.
In a statement released on Wednesday by Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Police reiterated its commitment to professionalism and public trust.
“The Nigeria Police Force has taken cognisance of a disturbing video making rounds in the media space, showing police officers receiving money from a Chinese national,” the statement said. “The Force has strongly condemned the conduct exhibited by the police officers in the video, describing it as unprofessional and unethical.”
Adejobi stated that the actions of the officers go against the core values, ethics, and standards of the Nigeria Police Force. He stressed that the Force maintains zero tolerance for misconduct that undermines public confidence.
“The officers involved have been identified and are currently undergoing disciplinary procedures,” he added. Although the specific sanctions were not disclosed, Adejobi assured that justice will be served.
The Police also issued a warning to individuals and organisations using police personnel for services such as escorts and guards, urging them to avoid actions that compromise the integrity of the Force.
“The Nigeria Police Force hereby cautions individuals and organisations privileged to the services of police personnel to desist from any act capable of degrading the integrity of its officers and bringing the Force to disrepute,” the statement said.
The incident comes at a time when the Police Force is intensifying its efforts to restore public trust and enforce internal accountability.
Adejobi called for continued public support in the ongoing police reform agenda and reaffirmed the agency’s dedication to transparency, discipline, and service in line with international best practices.
The disciplinary action, the statement concluded, is expected to serve as a deterrent to other officers and reinforce the message that unethical behaviour will not be tolerated within the Force.
