The Delta State Police Command has begun a full investigation into the death of Chief Love Shimite, the Special Adviser on Trade and Export to Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori.
Shimite reportedly died in the early hours of Easter Monday, with initial accounts suggesting she passed away after a brief illness.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, said Shimite was “confirmed dead at the hospital where she was taken.” He added that investigations are underway to determine the exact cause of her death.
A significant part of the inquiry involves her husband, who initially reported her death to the police. According to Edafe, “He was the one who called to report that his wife died early this morning and that he was receiving threats from her family, who feared he might be attacked. It was on this basis that we went to his house and brought him in for his own safety.”
Edafe clarified that the husband is currently in protective custody and not under arrest.
However, the matter took a new turn when the deceased’s family formally filed a complaint with the police, expressing suspicion that the husband may have been involved in her death.
In response, the police have committed to a thorough investigation. “We are currently investigating,” Edafe said, noting that only an autopsy can conclusively determine whether her death was natural or due to foul play.
The police assured the public that updates will be provided as the investigation unfolds.
